  23. My Power runs worse under Win95 Dial-Up-Network. My Provider
  24. (University) uses 
  25. a 'Ascend Terminal Server' and PAP automatic ppp-login.

  27. 1. Prob: The ModemLog shows these disturbing lines:

  35. This occurs not only with original settings as provided in the
  36. mdmmoto.inf(!!): After various
  37. other probs I changed all settings to atz\V4 (that's the connect from
  38. above). At no
  39. setting (mdmmoto.inf, at&f, f1, z etc.) error-control nor compression
  40. is detected, even tried
  41. all settings of \Nx, even disabled fast detect.

  43. I tried to connect to the servers number via dos-terminal when
  44. connect-message 
  45. showed "28800/V34/V42bis" so it must be possible for both sides of
  46. connection.

  49. 2. Prob (which seems to be combined with 1. and which is main reason
  50. for writing):

  52. In only one third of all tries my ppp-Internet connection is
  53. established, sometimes it won't
  54. be established for hours. I found the reason in the ppp-log of win95:

  67. This prob occurs only when using scriptless ppp-conection via password
  68. authentication protocol,
  69. I have no probs with a script-login, but only the remote 14.4 line is
  70. to be connected via script. 
  71. I did not have to buy a 28.8 and give away my 14.4 for that.

  73. Now, what makes me think this could be a modem prob? Experimenting
  74. with 3 different Modems:
  75. Zyxel U-1496E
  76. Elsa Mikrolink 28.8 TQV
  77. Aceex 2814VH                (all borowed from friends)

  79. No prob occurred ever with these modems. More: When my power did not
  80. connect I rapidly 
  81. changed modem to Zyxel and it connected fine... (I can send you
  82. log-files to check) 
  83. Of course, with all modems error control and data compression are
  84. detected!
